This Online Tech Support page is based on examples and you can follow the tutorial and get your Windows XP Mode install and running. Windows XP Mode can be downloaded from the following link. Online tech support recommends to have in your computer memory minimum 2 GB. We also think it would be better to have a separate partition with size around 15 GB for the Windows XP Mode data files. Create a new folder XPPrograms in that partition.
You need to select your system and install the following programs: “Windows XP Mode” and “Windows Virtual PC” as on the following picture.
After XP Mode Windows is installed go to:
“Start Menu” -> “Windows Virtual PC” -> “Manage virtual machines”
Select your “Windows XP Mode” and click on menu “Settings”
Online tech support recommends to set the Memory to at least 500 MB
Deselect all drives on your computer except the one you just created for Virtual machines.
Now when setting are done you can execute your “Windows XP Mode” from Windows Start menu.
In your Windows XP open “Windows Explorer” and from menu “Tools” -> “Map Network Drive…”
Good hint from Online tech support!
Map the XPPrograms folder as the Z-drive and from now on you should install all your programs to Z-drive instead of installing them into your virtual machine. This way your virtual machine’s data file will stay as small as possible and you can gain better performance that way. In short, you will install all your programs directly to your Windows 7 partition.
